Daniel's painting

Today I painted Craig, Toni and Daniel. Here is a photo of it.

Saigon zoo

Yesterday we went to the zoo in Saigon. It has about 1000 different animals and some of them are endangered. I saw the tigers and crocodiles and elephants. I got so close to the elephants that one tried to touch me with his trunk!

Here is the map we used to get around

Lunar New Year...

 Full moon in Vietnam
Flowers for Tet

Pink flowers
Tet is the Vietnamese New Year which is celebrated on the first day of the new lunar calendar (that's the 'moon' calendar). They put flower decorations all over the city. The pink flower is for north Vietnam and the yellow flower is for south Vietnam. This year it is celebrated on February 10th.

Feeding the crocodiles...

On Wednesday Mummy, Daddy, Daniel and me went to feed the crocodiles!!! There is a fun park near Saigon where there are lots of rides and fun things to do, but you can also feed crocodiles with shark meat. There was a big stick and on the stick was a piece of string and attached to the string was a piece of shark meat. I then put the meat over the railings and into the water where the crocodiles were - like in the picture above. I felt scared because the crocodiles kept jumping up, and at first I didn't want to do it, but my Daddy did it and showed me it was ok, so I had a go. The crocodiles got very full because I fed them five times and Daniel fed them twice!

The place we went to is in the second picture and here are another couple of photos to show you what it looked like when we fed them

Interesting food and drink...

There are lots of interesting and different foods and drinks in Vietnam. One of my favorite fruits is the Dragon fruit which looks like an EXPLOSION!

Watch out Elm Class, I might bring one home to show you so we can try it!

You can buy coconuts on the street to drink out of. The coconut seller keeps the coconuts cold in a box of ice and when you ask for one they chop the top of it off with a knife, then give it to you with a straw.

Daniel goes to the gym...

Today I went to the gym and went on the running machine and I also lifted some weights - I enjoyed it very much.

Like Holly I also learnt some Vietnamese...

Hen gap lai - this means 'See you again'.

A Happy New Year poster...

On here you can see the yellow flowers for Tet

Vietnamese words I know...

Since I've been here I've heard people speaking Vietnamese. My mum told me a few words and what they mean, here are some of them...

Cam on - this means 'thank you'.

Xinchao - this means 'hello'.

Tambiet - this means 'bye bye'.

Chuc Mung Nam Moi - this means 'Happy New Year'.

Chocolate Ice-cream

Hello from Daniel

I had a great day the other day! I went for ice-cream with Mummy, Daddy and Holly. The ice cream was chocolate flavor - it was tasty!

A bowl of Pho...

My first experiences of Vietnam...

This is my first entry on my new blog! I'll tell you a bit about what I have felt since arriving...

Crossing the road is difficult because there are loads of motorbikes coming at you and you have to be careful to not get run over! Christmas over here was fun and the weather was hot! A hotel near where we are staying had a snow machine with a snowman in it and a bowl of moving Pho - Pho is a Vietnamese soup which looks like it's got spaghetti in it and tastes yummy! Our hotel has a pool which has a mini bar in it where I sometimes like to get a milkshake.

There are big yellow flowers being put up in Saigon at the moment to celebrate Tet - this is the celebration of the Vietnamese New Year which is celebrated at a different time from England.
